He explains how these devices are designed to emulate real-world attacks so defenders can understand how an organization could be compromised and what needs to be fixed. We start with the USB Rubber Ducky, a device that looks like a normal flash drive but identifies itself to a computer as a keyboard. Darren explains keystroke injection, DuckyScript, and why the Rubber Ducky is one of the best Hak5 devices for learning how computers and operating systems actually work. The interview then moves to the more powerful Bash Bunny, a Linux-based attack platform capable of presenting itself as storage, a keyboard, a serial device, or even a network adapter. Darren also demonstrates the Plunder Bug LAN tap and the Shark Jack Display, a pocket-sized network reconnaissance tool that can run scans and display network information directly on the device. He explains how tools like these can help both red teamers and network administrators understand what is connected to a network, which VLAN they are on, and whether firewall or ACL configurations are actually working as expected. The conversation then moves to Hak5's implant devices. The Packet Squirrel can sit inline on a network and capture or manipulate traffic. The Key Croc sits between a keyboard and a computer, allowing authorized testers to monitor keystrokes and trigger payloads based on patterns. The Screen Crab sits inline with an HDMI connection and can capture what is displayed on a monitor, television, or conference-room projector. Darren also shows the latest LAN Turtle Hub, which disguises itself as an ordinary USB Ethernet adapter and USB hub while containing a Linux computer capable of network monitoring and remote-access workflows for authorized penetration testing. Finally, we dive into one of Hak5's best-known platforms, the Wi-Fi Pineapple. Darren explains how Wi-Fi devices search for previously known networks, how the Pineapple can be used to emulate those networks during authorized tests, and how red teams can assess whether employees and devices are vulnerable when they leave the corporate environment.
